Export your data
LookAfter is built on the idea that your health data is yours. You should be able to take it with you, back it up, or share it with other apps and clinicians.
Why we support export
Your health data belongs to you. Export lets you take it with you, back it up, or share it with other apps and clinicians in a structured, reusable format. This aligns with global data portability principles — GDPR Article 20 in the EU and data access rights in India's DPDP Act 2023.
What you can export
When you request an export, we include:
- Profile details: name, email, age, gender, health conditions, health goals, streaks.
- Lab analyses: uploaded reports plus the AI-generated biomarker, Four Pillars, and supplement analysis JSON.
- Daily logs: day-by-day entries across energy, mood, sleep, movement, symptoms, PCOS/period fields, meals, and goal logs.
- Goals: active and past goals, including targets and completion history.
- Monthly reports: summaries we generated for you (radar chart data and tagged patterns).
- AI chat history: your messages and LookAfter’s structured responses (summary + blocks).
- Family context: family tree relationships plus goals or logs you created on behalf of dependents you manage.
- Attachments: files you uploaded (e.g., lab PDFs), when technically feasible to include in a single bundle.
We only include your data, plus dependent profiles you explicitly manage. We do not include data owned by other adult family members, even if you see them inside your Family Circle. This respects their independent privacy rights.
Export formats
We currently offer:
JSON archive (machine-readable)
A single zip containing JSON files for profile, daily logs, goals, lab analyses, monthly reports, family tree records, and chat history. Ideal if you want to use your data in other tools or with a developer.
PDF summary (human-readable)
A simple PDF summarizing key information: your profile, goals, last few lab summaries, recent monthly reports, and a high-level timeline of logs.
CSV files (optional, where supported)
Separate CSVs per log type (e.g. daily_logs.csv, goals.csv, monthly_reports.csv) so you can open them in Excel, Sheets, or analytics tools — similar to Apple Health and Google Health exports.
We may add more formats over time based on feedback.
How to request your data
You can request an export directly from the app:
- Open Settings → Privacy & data.
- Tap Export my data.
- Choose the format (JSON archive, PDF summary, or both).
- Confirm your request and complete the quick identity check (password re-entry or email verification).
For security reasons, we'll ask you to re-authenticate before we generate the export. This protects against account theft or someone using a forgotten device to pull your data. Consistent with privacy and health-data access norms.
How you receive your export
Depending on size, we either:
- generate the export instantly and make it available as a direct download in-app, or
- email you a secure download link to the address on your account.
The link will:
- be valid for a limited time (for example, 7 days),
- expire automatically after that, and
- not be re-usable once you regenerate a fresh export.
We do not keep long-lived, publicly accessible export files. Links are time-limited and protected.
Turnaround times
- Most accounts: export is generated immediately or within a few minutes.
- Very large accounts / edge cases: we may process your export asynchronously, but we aim to complete any full archive request within 30 days, which aligns with common data portability timelines in regulations like GDPR.
If there's ever a delay, we'll let you know in-app or by email.
What’s not included
At this time, exports do not include:
- internal system logs or debug data,
- anonymized analytics that cannot be linked back to you,
- content owned by other people (e.g., other adult family members),
- any proprietary model weights or internal risk scores.
If you delete your account, we follow our deletion process separately; export is about copying your data, not removing it. We provide a clear link to the Delete your account & data flow in the same Settings section.
How this relates to your rights
- EU/UK users: our export feature is designed to help you exercise your right to data portability under GDPR/UK GDPR, letting you receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
- India users: it also supports your right to access and receive copies of your personal data under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
- Other regions: even where these laws don’t strictly apply, we treat export as a basic user right.
